Congrats! That's so exciting! Also, thanks for the timing updates. I'm still in playing the waiting game for Phase 1, so I'm always really interested in others experiences.

Time to celebrate with the eau-de-vie I got in Vianden - 9 generations and not much has changed :-) Next up: Passport & Nationality Card... Congrats! I'm going to Europe in May, if ever you're around at this time, tell me please, it'd be a pleasure if we can meet....

Thanks AdA
email me at: doublejcream@gmail.com We plan to go to Europe this year, and now that the 'little' one is going to regular school we need to make it before August, and trying to avoid the July-Aug (everyone else is on vacation as well). So all that to say that we've haven't made any definite plans so the schedule is open some-what open.
PS - 9 generations later and we still haven't found a cure for the hang-over ... it was fake news! ... sad!

Yes, thanks for the time line. My wife got her ancestry certificate in about three weeks last fall (2016), and she's making her declaration at the Bierger Center in late June. I suppose she'll get her approval by Christmas 2017. We've worked with a lawyer in Luxembourg City, and she's made it easy for us.

I'm curious why you would use a lawyer? I was told by the person whom took my application that there were people who had used lawyers but the process seems fairly straightforward so i'm curious what would a laywer do in the application process? thanks

May I ask how you guys got translations done? I'm a bit confused by the whole certified translation requirement for Phase 2.

I believe I looked for 'certified translators in <put in your city>' into google - Most professional translators are certified by some organization, I think Luxembourg just wants to see a little stamp that someone other than some aunt who knows a bit of French or German did the translation. Since Luxembourg officially supports the 3 languages (Luxembourgish, French, German), all documents need to be in one of those languages for all documents, including submitted documents for the re-acquisition of nationality documents. They can't be expected to read or translate certificates that come in from all possible languages. So it falls under the requirements of the applicant to be able to provide the certificates in a language that they will be able to read.

Thanks. They first translator we talked to wanted a ridiculous amount of $. We talked to a couple more, and it was better. Just find an ATA certified translator (for people looking at this response in this future)

Thanks for the info, i'm not familiar with the American system, whether there is a national certification or whether it is state based. But like most things, it is best to get a few quotes. Good Luck
