Hello all,
I wish to change my name once I receive Luxembourg nationality. For example, I hope that I can register my name in the National Register under my Luxembourg family name. I may even consider choosing a first name that is more in line with local French or German sounding names, although I am undecided on changing my first name. However, I do want to have my last name changed.
I would like to officially change my name before I apply for a National I.D. Card and a Luxembourg passport.
Has anyone gone through a name change after receiving their citizenship?
Also, does the Ministry of Justice not ask you which name you wish to have officially registered in the National Registry?
Thanks for any information.

First of all, be aware that German first names are not popular in Luxembourg! You will notice that most Luxembourgish people have a French first name! Then if I remember correctly it was all explained In the paperworks you have probably received! May I ask why do you want to change your name?

I wish to take my grandfather's (who was from Luxembourg) last name. I received the paperwork, but I did not see anything regarding the registration of an official name with the National Register. I only received 3 pieces of paper and nothing seems to mention the choice of registering an official name. Can you comment on that for me?

seblux, Thanks again for the name change request form. I assume that I can send the completed form to the Ministry of Justice, or should I isntead send it to the Luxembourg City Hall? The form has "Ministry of Justice" written at the top but the blue text highlighted in the quote below seems to instruct applicants to contact the Luxembourg City Hall. Taken from the link above:

Interesting German first names are not common in Luxembourg. Indeed, I was searching for other family members still in Luxembourg and realized they all had French names like Pierre, Nicolas, Jean..
