Hi everyone. New guy here. I'm starting the process for Phase 1 and I have what is probably a dumb question. I've searched and not found a clear answer. I have what I believe are all of my necessary documents to submit for my Certificat. What I don't know is if there an official submittal form or if I can just send a letter stating that I am requesting it. If I only need a letter stating that I'm requesting the Certificat, can it be in English
Does anyone have a form letter they can share?
Thanks in advance. I learned of this opportunity not too long ago and I'm hoping I can get in before the deadline. Regards,
Dan

Hi drhach
I've got a form that trevor forwarded to me, its already in French and is a template, its pretty easy to understand. I think whatever you send should be French/German/Luxembourgish. You should be fine for the deadline - you have till the end of next year to submit the phase 2 papers, so if you submit phase 1 now you should have your certificat by December and then you have all of next year to go there and submit phase 2. contact me at doublejcream@gmail.com for the template.

Hi, following up on this, also new here.
I know that I need to provide luxembourg vital records (birth/marriage/etc.). I do not have any originals, but I found images of them online on familysearch.org.
My question is do I need to request certified copies from Luxembourg to submit with all the official paperwork? Or can I use images of the Luxembourg ones with the understanding that they will go look up the details in the original record books anyways? If I do need the certified copies, do I just submit an email to the general email address for the Bierger-Center?
Regardless, I will still submit certified USA birth/marriage/death certificates with an official french translation. I am just asking about documents originating in Luxembourg. It seems like it might be a bit tricky and costly to try to coordinate with the Bierger-Center.
Thank you all so much for the help/advice in advance. I'm excited to reclaim Luxembourgish heritage! -DAK

Hi DAK You will need to submit the certified copies that you get from Luxembourg, the online images wont work, that's at least from everywhere I've seen and heard, maybe they would work but don't be surprised if they don't. It is of course pure bureaucracy where you need to request vital records in order to resubmit them but hey there would be a lot of people out of work if things were done efficiently. - Do not assume that they will do the work of looking things up for you. -the vital records come from the city that your ancestors are from, you will need to contact the city for where they were born-married-died. The San Francisco consulate has a good webpage of information here; sanfrancisco.mae.lu/en/Consular-Services/Dual-Citizenship-Reclaiming-Nationality- For the first phase (phase 1) the vital records do not need to be translated, only the documents needed for phase 2 need translation - Luxembourg will send vital documents for free, it doesn't get better than that. - tricky and costly - there are some countries that "sell" nationality starting around $500000.00 - and none are in Europe - don't expect to get Lux nationality without some effort and expense. - I found most of the hard work is to complete phase 1 - especially for people that are new to requesting vital documents, especially from other countries. It is time consuming, sometimes frustrating, sometimes costly, but I think everyone who has gone through the process would agree that it is worth it. Good Luck - and there is lots of good information and resources in this forum

Thanks so much for the reply.
I was unaware that Luxembourg would issue vital records for free, so I will definitely be following up with them. Since all records I'm seeking are from 1919 and earlier, I think I will go directly to the Bierger-Center, since it appears that all records pre-1923 were transferred to the national archives. (and 2 of the 3 documents I need were from Luxembourg city)
I have already looked everything up for them, and will provide them with names, dates, document names and document page numbers thanks to familysearch.org. Hopefully that will expedite their process.
It seems like a fun excuse to go visit Luxembourg again.
