I would like to know who here's ever been in the Grand Duchy! Seblux, I was in Luxembourg for about a week in August. I really enjoyed it but I actually didn't see everything that I wanted to see. I plan to visit again for a week in February or March. I want to see the underground tunnels referred to as the Bock Casemates. I also want to take a trip outside of the city and also take a bus to Trier, Germany.

I would like to know who here's ever been in the Grand Duchy! I visited for the first time at the end of May, beginning of June this year. It was my first time in Europe, so I also traveled to Dublin, Belfast, London, Brussels and Frankfurt. I spent only a few days in Luxembourg City. Like user Nicolas, I also saw the Bock and the Casemates, which was a fascinating and scenic experience. I might've been a little nervous on those rocky spiral staircases -- those medieval Luxembourgers had small feet -- but it was worth it. I walked around the Grund, saw the Grand Ducal palace and the outside of the Chamber of Deputies, met up with an acquaintance who gave us a tour, got into a little trouble on the bus, drank Diekirch at a few bars including Steiler (and a bar with sand on the floor -- sadly I don't remember the name!), ate some delicious dishes at Cents Café - Beim Zeutzius Sàrl, saw an army of snails as we climbed the hill from the Grund to our AirBnB on Rue de Treves, visited Notre-Dame Cathedral and saw the Philharmonie Luxembourg, Fort Thüngen, the World War I memorial and a few other things I'm probably not remembering at the moment. Next time I go, I want to go to Eischen (for the obvious reason that it's my last name), Diekirch and some of the more rural parts of the country. I'd really enjoy visiting some of the towns where my ancestors were born.

Hi All,
I went earlier this spring and was there for about 5 days in March and drove all over the country. I did Luxembourg city, the casemates, moselle river, Clervaux, Vianden castle and drove out to several of the smaller towns tracking down birth certificates. Its a lovely country with beautiful and scenic drives. I highly recommend having a car to get a round as you can cover so much more ground and really see the beauty of the country.

What languages did you find to be most prevalent while you were there? I want to start studying either French or German so I need some help deciding which.

If you decide to live in the capital, French is more spoken but you will get your way around in English! I know tons of people who live here and who can only speak English. I would say south: French, north: German, everywhere: Luxembourgish!

The Casemates are awesome. I have quite a few photos of them somewhere. Not sure if you can post photos on this though.

I stayed 15 days in Luxembourg. One week in Frisange and another in Cessange. I visited many places, just didn't go to the north of the country. A special moment was visiting Feulen, where my great great grandfather was born in 1808. As I was without wifi, i left "home" with the bus info written on a paper. When I was on my way, I realized I had written down how to get to Diekirch, then from Diekirch to Ettelbruck and again from Diekirch to Feulen. For some reason I didn't write down how to go from Ettelbruck to Feulen. As time was not a problem, after I visited Ettelruck, i got on the bus to go back to Diekirch and then catch a bus to Feulen. Well, i took the wrong bus, wrong direction and after a while I pressed the button to get out, cross the street and get another one back to correct my way. When i got off the bus I looked around to know where I was. I was really surprised that accidentally i ended up jumping off the wrong bus exactly in Feulen. It was magical!! I even visited the cemetery where his father was buried.
I also went crazy in Auchan. Serioulsy, I've been to many huge supermarkets in USA, but nothing compares to the amount of varieties in Auchan. Just for yogurts there were two aisles.
I found the buses great, the public services at the Post, the passport office and the Guichet were also great.
And of course the ladscape... loved everything.
What i didn't like much was prices, the fact that everybody seemed to smoke (but this is everywhere in Europe) and the fact that either you plan your dinner pretty early, or you end up going to bed starving, especially if you are in towns like Frisange or Cessange. Nothing to buy, no conveniet stores, no cafés open... but i learned that and that was ok.
