Hello,
I completed Phase 1 of the dual citizenship process and received my certificat in 2015. I am wondering if anyone has any insight or information on whether or not my child who will be 1 year by the time I go to the Registrar's office to complete Phase 2 will automatically become a citizen as well? I'm assuming I will have submit paperwork for him? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi
Yes, when you go for the phase 2, bring the birth certificate of your child, and the french/german/lux translation and they become citizens on the same day that you would recover citizenship. The birth certificate should show that you are the mother of that child. You child then is registered in your application and if you are approved then you and your child are registered in the lux national database. If you have any more children you will need to advise them so that any further children are also registered. The concept of multiple citizenship depends on country you are living in and what nationalities you are referring to. My son has 3, Canadian by birth, French from his mother and Lux from my reclaiming nationality. Canada accepts multiple nationalities (2 or more. There are certain countries like Germany that <only/used to> accept one nationality (this might be different now), this was also the case with Luxembourg until the change in the Nationality law in 2008, so it would have been pointless for a German to reclaim Lux nationality since they would need to renounce their German nationality. Assuming you are in the US - from what I know they *tolerate* multiple nationalities, it is accepted but not encouraged.
Hope that helps.

Hello, I completed Phase 1 of the dual citizenship process... You are American, aren't you. I hear a lot of Americans say that they are applying for "dual citizenship." However, your application is for Luxembourg citizenship. I wonder where this meme of "dual citizenship" comes from, because I hear it a lot from Americans.
