Hi all, just discovered this opportunity and scrambling to get all the phase 1 docs ASAP. One thing that is not clear to me is a marriage certificate requirement. Official guidelines don't say much, and I wasn't able to find a clear answer here. Are they really necessary for every ancestor? I understand the need in case of a female ancestor/last name change, but do you really need them in case of male ancestors/no last name changes? Has anyone passed phase 1 successfully without marriage certificates? I just don't see why I need to get my father's marriage certificate, for example, as my birth certificate clearly shows that he's my father. And while getting one for my father won't be a problem, it would be really hard for me to find marriage records of my great-great-great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. I still have my great-great-great-grandfather's lastname and birth records clearly show lineage. Thank you!

You probably don't need them if you are dealing with a male lineage. The only "real" answer if you need them would come from the MoJ, and if you call the nationality hotline I suspect that one person might tell you that you need them and the next person will probably say just the birth certificates. To me it comes down to proving that you are related through official vital records to the Lux ancestor, so your father's marriage certificate doesn't add to proving the descendence. The exception is of course for females where to follow the family name changes the marriage certificate will prove the lineage. Also if you are married you will need your marriage certificate, and the birth certificates of any children for phase 2.
I'm pretty sure you will not find a definitive answer, but I think you are ok without the marriage. If you do find an answer please let us know. thanks

Thank you. Will post back once I find out anything or go through the process. If anyone here skipped marriage certificates for male relatives successfully, please let us know!
