Well, my grandmother was from Luxembourg and came to the US in 1946 as a "war bride" of my soldier grandfather. I have birth, marriage, and death certificates for her, and birth certificates for her mother (born 1902), and grandmother (born 1870s). I have my mother's birth and my birth certificate. I plan on sending a small family tree. What else do I need to send for Phase I? Is there an actual application to complete? WHat do you think my chances are if I put this all in the mail on July 14? Thanks for any info!!!!!!!!

The recovery of Luxembourg nationality was brought in by the law of nationality of 2009 (article 29), this was slightly modified by the new and current law of 2017 (article 89); guichet.public.lu/en/citoyens/citoyennete/nationalite-luxembourgeoise/acquisition-recouvrement/recouvrement.htmlI think you have 2 possible routes; 1) You request recovery of the nationality (article 89) before the deadline of the end of this year, 2018. 2) The descendant of your Lux Grandmother (i think in your case that would be your mother), if she is alive makes the request for recovery of lux nationality, i think based on article 1 or 2, which essentially i believe says any person born of a Luxembourg national also is has Lux nationality, ie Jus Sanguinis. I don't believe there is a time limit for this. Once your mother regains that Lux nationality, then you can apply to recover the nationality in the same manner. So personally i think i would try 1) first and then if that doesn't work you have 2) available as a failback. So as long as your ancestor, the one born in 1870s actually was a Luxembourg national, then you should be good. As in the link it says the things you need, this forum is also full of the stuff you need and the process. Basically you need the birth/marriage/death certificates that follow your ancestor of 1870 to you. You would need your birth and marriage cert. Getting the certs is usually the longest part. in the link is also the nationality hotline in Luxembourg that can answer any questions you might have as well. Hope that gets you started.
