Hello, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the process is like for people with a criminal record trying to reclaim their citizenship?
I see that the guichet website makes reference to applicants being refused if they’ve been convicted and sentenced to 12 months or more in jail or received suspended sentences of 24 months or more, but what about people with lesser misdemeanors on their record? Does the issuing authority have discretion to approve/ deny those applicants, or will you pretty much be accepted so long as you don’t fall under one of those categories above?
Any information/ advice would be much appreciated.

Lesser misdemeanors are okay. That's why the rule specifies the duration of the sentence so that anything less is overlooked.
