Hello all,
I submitted my final phase 2 documents to Bierger Centre on August 4, 2014. As of Monday, it has now been 5 months since submitting my documents. How much longer will I likely have to wait before I receive a letter from Luxembourg telling me that I have been successful in reclaiming Luxembourg nationality?
My guess is that I won't hear back from the Ministry of Justic until March or April, at the very earliest. So maybe a total wait of 8 - 9 months? I'm probably psyching myself out unnecessarily. I have been thinking that I may have submitted documents that may not have been recognized, for whatever reason. But when I submitted my documents, the woman at the counter looked them over and told me that they looked fine. So maybe I'm just worrying for no reason. It took about 8 months for me to receive a certificat relatif à l’aïeul luxembourgeois.
So how long did it take you after Phase 2 to receive confirmation that you were successful in recovering Luxembourg citizenship?

Hey Neil,
I just got my letter this week. I applied in person at the Bierger Center at the end of May/beginning of June 2014. So it took me a few days over 7 months, but I also took into account that the government offices were probably closed mostly during the month of August for summer holiday. So it should take approximately 6 to 7 months. I've heard the same for most other applicants. Hope this helps! It's an unbearable wait no matter what, but it's worth it. In case you're worried toward the end of when you're expecting the letter, you can contact Xavier Drenbenstedt, who will respond to your email and also cc your caseworker. The caseworker might be able to provide a time frame.

Trevor,
Thank you very much for describing your phase 2 timeline. And congratulations! It is a very long process. Yes, finally at around the 5th month the waiting started to get to me. From August - November I put it out of my mind and tried to forget about it, but now I'm really starting to wonder if my file and documents are okay. I have Mr. Drebenstedt's email. Maybe I'll get in touch with him as my application moves into it's 7th month which will be at the start of February. I've been resisting the urge to call or e-mail them to ask about my file. I'm sure they get a lot of calls and e-mails every day by people asking them for updates.
And that's why this forum has been so helpful for applicants. It's a great place to exchange or share information about the application process.
Thanks again!

For phase 2, when you applied did you mail in any forms ahead of time? If so, what was mailed in advance or what is the "initial application" referred to below?
"Please note that the re-acquisition of Luxembourg Nationality must be done in person in Luxembourg with an initial application which can be mailed before going in person-this declaration must be made by December 31st, 2018 at the latest."

Well, today is April 4, 2015. So it has been exactly 8 months today since I submitted my final Phase 2 documentation at Bierger Center. I submitted on August 4, 2014. I really starting to wonder how much longer I will have to wait. I'm getting antsy! I gather that they must be extremely busy at the Ministry of Justice.

You might have to wait up to a year. If I were you I'd ask after 11 months the status of your application. Keep in mind that this transition law is valid until 2018. Past then this will no longer be possible so the amount of citizenship requests is very likely to increase up until 2018 as people realize they might lose a unique opportunity to get the citizenship! Again, if you passed Phase 1 it's only a matter of time before you actually become a fellow Luxembourger

It seems to be taking longer for the Ministry of Justice to process files. Yes, after the 11th month, I will surely contact the Ministry of Justice for an update on the status of my file. I, too, believe that if an applicant is successful at Phase 1 and receives a certificat, then there should be no problems receiving citizenship. And the waiting will probably only get longer as we approach the 2018 deadline. I agree, there could be a sudden surge in applicants trying to complete their files before the deadline. Thus, the longer waits for applicants. I started this project in September 2013, or about a year and a half ago. So, if I receive my citizenship in the next few months, it will have taken me just under 2 years to complete the entire process.

Hi Neil,
I hope you're doing well. I too am waiting for my Phase II documents to be processed. Do you mind me asking if you have received your letter yet? I hope so since you have now waited almost a full year.
Best Regards
