Just curious as to what the people who have completed both Phase 1 and Phase 2 did for their "Certified true copies" of their passports. For phase 1 I simply just ordered a copy of my passport from from the passport office in the U.S. the price is not too hateful but the wait to receive the copy is unbearably long. Are the other ways of getting these certified copies? What have you guys done that has worked? I would rather get it done the quick and easy way than have to order yet another copy of my passport and wait the extra 2+ months to receive it. Also if anyone here from the U.S. has done the translations of their documents for Phase 2 where did you get these done? I have no idea where I would get these translated and by whom would the translations would be accepted.

I wasn't aware I could order a copy of my passport, thanks for that! There are paid, certified translation services, and I imagine this is what they are expecting. Here is an example of one that has an office in my city. I haven't used them personally, but I'll probably end up there soon! www.ambassadorpassportandvisa.com/translation-services.html

Yes, the copies are $50 a piece. The only downfall is it takes several weeks to recieve the copy. You have to type a request for the copy and have it notarized and mail it in with a check and photocopy of your drivers license. You can get the info you need from www.travel.state.gov

I do not understand what all of you mean by ordering a copy of your passport. Does this mean that you are buying another passport that is exactly like the passport you have already? So therefore you will have 2 passports?
Why don't you just take your passport to a notary and have them photocopy your passport details page and then notarize it for you? That would be both cheaper and quicker than ordering another passport.
Again, I am not clear on what you mean by ordering a copy of a passport, so I may have misunderstood what that means.
Finally, it is always best to e-mail the Ministry of Justice in Luxembourg and have them define what 'certified true copies' means and maybe they can tell you what options you have in the United States.

I've looked up certified true copies hundreds of times and talked to many notaries. From what I've been told numerous times and researched is that notaries will not make copies of vital documents such as bircertificstes and passports. There are also state laws that limit what notaries can and can't do.

This was the email that i received when I first started the process:
Dear Mr. Friend, I hereby acknowledge receipt of your e-mail and the attached picture. After reviewing of your file, I can inform you that you are eligible to reclaim the Luxembourgish citizenship through your ancestor. In order to issue a certificate establishing that you are the descended from an ancestor who possessed Luxembourg nationality on 1st January 1900 , I invite you to send us certified true photocopies of the following documents: · birth and marriage certificate of Pierre Grün, born in 1891 in France; · birth and marriage certificates of all persons that prove your direct-line descendance of that ancestor; · your birth certificate; · copy of your passport. With my best regards, Xavier DREBENSTEDT
I received my "Certified true photocopy" of my passport today. Took about 7 weeks after they processed my request. The copy also came with a letter typed up by the case worker for my request stating that it is a "Certified true photocopy" and it is stamped, signed, etc.
But if anyone has done anything differently that has worked then feel free to post the information on what has been done. I received every other required document in about 6 days, so the longest part has been waiting on the passport copy.

I have completed all the phases and now have a Luxembourgish passport. For the certified copy of my passport, I made a color copy and had a notary public stamp and sign the photocopy -- that worked fine.

I see. Well either way I've already got copies of mine. When I asked the notaries before they told me they wouldn't do it.

I emailed Lux and they told me a copy of my passport from a copy machine that is notarized is just fine. That's what I did and so did my four family members all using different notaries. Phase 1 doesn't need to be translated, right?

Yeah I've seen that. Certain states have different rules towards it. So I'm not exactly sure what you are supposed to do if you live where they will not stamp your documents.

Hi! I'm from Vancouver, BC. For those applying from Canada a Notary Public will certify your passport copies for a small fee.

A notarized copy of my passport worked fine for me and my daughter.

I got a local bank to do mine. Wish I would have thought of them before I payed for government copies and sent in my other documents. I decided to try and get a notarized copy just incase I may need it. I payed $50 to the government for " Certified copies" of my passport and what they sent me actually looked more like copies of my paperwork when I had applied for the passport. Plus now I fear I may need more copies to send in to the ministry

Has anyone used a notarized copy of their passport instead of a certified copy from passport Canada when submitting in person the documents in Luxembourg? I don't want to make trip to Luxembourg with a notarized copy and then find out I needed the copy from the passport office.
