It was not made clear to me either. My great grandfather is who I used for my ancestry. So I got his birth, marriage, and death certificates. And then I got only the birth and marriage certificates of everyone after him. From both sides of the families. So I had my great grandfather. Then my grandfather and grandmother, then both of my parents, and then me. I think I went a little overboard with some documents.

I have almost gathered all that I think I need for phase 1, but as I am doing more reading now because I am getting ready to send the paperwork I have come across those who have gathered documents that I have ruled out because I didn't find them necessary. What I mean is that I didn't seek out birth or death certificates for those that didn't contribute to the Lux family line. For example, my fathers birth certificate i don't think is necessary because the line doesn't come through him, but I have my mother's birth and marriage. Or, my line comes through my grandmothers, so I didn't seek my grandfathers birth certificates in each of those marriages, but will be getting the marriage certificate. Any thoughts? Thanks!

You need the person you are showing ancestry to Birth certificate Death certificate Marriage certificate And then the birth and marriage of everyone below that.

You also need a notarized photocopy of your passport.

I do understand that I need all those linking me to that ancestor, but do I also need the birth and death certificates of the spouses that had no Luxembourg connection?

As I understand it, no, you don't need the non-direct line birth and death documents.

Thanks Helena, that is what I thought. I had just seen others who had but most who hadn't and wanted to clarify.
