Just curious about a few things. I have already submitted my phase 1 documents months ago, but I have some family members that would like to also hop onto the process. I already know they just need to send in the copy of their birth certificate and passport since I have already sent in the rest of the documents that they would need. So, my question is, can they just make a photo copy from a printer of their birth certificates and have a notary sign them? Instead of having to actually order a new copy from their place of birth. I have heard that a simple photo copy of the passport signed by a notary is acceptable, so it seems as though this should also be sufficient enough for the birth certificates as well. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Saving a little money is always nice.

Hi Moike-just wondering if you were ever able to resolve this question? I have quite a few family members that may be interested in applying but may not be ready in time to submit their documents as part of our group application. Did you receive a file number or anything for your phase one application that you could reference if an additional family member wanted to be added to your application?
Also curious if after one family member receives the certificate of ancestry if it might make it any easier or faster for family members to get through phase one at a later date?

I can tell you that since that's what I did. My uncle had sent all the genealogy docs, and my mother and I just had to send our birth certificates explaining how we were related to my uncle. That was it. No, there's no file number, you have to tell them in writing who to look for, and they do. They answered us within three days. Now, what I don't know is if you have to send the certificates notarized and translated or not.
