Hi Everyone
I have seen a couple of threads about needing not only birth certificates for relatives but also marriage certificates and death certificates for deceased relatives. I am wondering why marriage certificates for everyone and wouldn't the birth certificate suffice so long as both parents are listed on the birth certificate? What happens if a mother and father never married would that disqualify a person from seeking citizenship?

Hi
I looked at what the official documents said and it was vague to say the least. When I talked to a person at the info line in Luxembourg, they told me only birth and marriage. I didn't ask if they wanted marriage of everyone or just certain persons. My guess is that they want to see how Mr. or Mrs LUX in 1900 turned into Mr. or Mrs XYZ in 2016. So in my case the connections are all paternal so I have the same last name as my Great Grandfather LUX in 1900 so a marriage wouldn't change that, but if you have some maternal connections then they would want to see that you came from the union of the Lux person. I don't know if that would disqualify if they never married - I don't think so as long as you can prove the direct lineage of the person from Luxembourg. I got all the certificates because I didn't want to be bothered with them coming back to say they wanted this or that certificate, plus it was for genealogical purposes. you should really call the hotline and discuss with them which ones, or better yet send them an email asking which ones you need and, then send that with your application. that's my $0.02

Hi Twoj thanks for the 2 cents:) Yes I have several decedents(great great grandparents) that were born in Luxembourg that I have certificates for. Its just my situation since my parents were never married that concerns me:/
